SAMMANFATTNING
In this report an investigation of contact fatigue in railway track is
presented. Especially rolling contact fatigue under enviromental extremes
such as heavy load will be studied.
The focus is on the modelling of the processes that lead to contact fatigue.
In order to model this process the residual stress state after manufacturing
will be taken into account.
In this study Luleå university of technology has modelled the manufacturing
process which includes calculating residual stresses after manufacturing.
Chalmers University of Technology has analysed the fatigue life of the rail
due to rolling contact fatigue.
Three different load cases have been considered; one with stress free initial
conditions, one with measured residual stress values and one with residual
stress values calculated from the modelling of the manufacturing process.
The simulation shows that crack initiation will appear after 1-2 days of
heavy haul traffic, which agree with informations from Banverket that states
that cracks have been observed after less than one week.
