SAMMANFATTNING
Today’s business environment is an information economy and fundamental
changes have occurred in the ways people use information and communicate.
People need to learn how to manage information more efficiently, and
information has to be available at the right time and in the right place,
which can be done by using Intranet. The purpose of this study is to
examine how Swedish firms perceive and use the Intranet. In order to reach
the purpose four case studies were conducted. The results show that the main
objective of using Intranet is to improve information access by enabling
employees to search for, request, and retrieve digital information
electronically, and also increase the communication within the company. The
most important advantage of using Intranet is that it provides the employees
with more accurate, appropriate, and up-to-date information that leads to
better decision making. The main disadvantages of Intranet are at security-
and productivity level. Regarding the Intranet design the study shows that
most of the companies are somewhere between the Asymmetrical and
Symmetrical Intranet model.
