SUMMARY
The purpose of this thesis has been to estimate future electricity demand in Namibia. This has been done by the use of a log-linear demand function based on data for the time period 1980-99. It has been shown that economic activity is the most important factor affecting demand. Materials treated in mining is another important factor. Consumption is insensitive to price changes and there does not exist any substitute for most of the services which electricity provides. Electricity demand is forecasted to be between 1906 and 2530 GWh by the year 2005.
