SUMMARY
This is an essay that deals with the implementation of business systems from two opposing views, a reductionistic and an anti-reductionistic view. It addresses the question “Do the acceleration of the implementation phase lead to a certain view and what impact does this have on the implementation?”. To answer the question I have focused on the main issues concerning implementation and on finding a useful and understandable definition of reductionism and anti-reductionism. The empirical study is made through interviews. This essay does not aspire to cover everything concerning implementation, but aims to include main features from a few authors and relate these to reductionism and anti-reductionism. The research has brought increased understanding of the implementation process and how the reductionistic and anti-reductionistic views relate to implementation.
