SUMMARY
My intention with this project was to study some of the factors involved with juvenile delinquency. I wanted to clarify some of the causes, look at Sweden's and USA's juvenile crime rates and justice systems, and find eventual differences and similarities. A big difference I found was that USA uses the death penalty in most states, while this is outlawed in Sweden. Also, USA has special juvenile courts, whereas Sweden has one united court system where both adults and juveniles can be prosecuted. Both countries try to keep juveniles out of the court system as much as possible by diverting youth to the social services. The most common crimes among juveniles are property offenses in Sweden as well as in Missouri, USA, and juvenile delinquency is most frequent in urban areas. Overall, this study gave a pretty good picture of how juvenile delinquency is handled in these countries.
