The effects of the EMU on financial risks and competitive situation: a survey of exporting SME’s in northern Sweden

SAMMANFATTNING The main findings of the study shows that the market opportunities will
increase as well as the competitive situation will get more adverse. The
Euro is not something the companies sees as a major improvement, they will
still have to face transaction costs and foreign exchange risks as a result
of Sweden not entering in the beginning. Some companies will be forced to
switch to Euro as an invoicing currency but very few will use it as an
accounting currency, even if available.
This study was performed to find out how the introduction of the Euro would
affect the export dependent companies in northern Sweden. The main areas of
the study were the financial and competitive situations. A questionnaire was
sent to 42 companies with 23 responses received.
