SUMMARY
To keep the own competitivness and to survive in an ever changing world it
has become common practice for swedish production companies to invest large
amounts of money in systems that are designed to simplify business
processes, these systems are marketed as ERP systems.
An investment in an ERP system involves considerable costs and a longterm
relationship between the company that buys the system and the company that
supplies it. This pushes the importance of conducting a rigorous selection
process when investing in an ERP system.
The purpose of this paper is to review two companies selection process when
investing in an ERP system and to see wheter Multi-Modal Systems Thinking
(MST) could have enriched them.
We have conducted two case studies at Plannja AB and Lövångers Elektriska
AB. The result illuminates the importance of that the investers focus on a
long term perspective in designing and conducting the selection process.
