SAMMANFATTNING
The purpose of this study is to find an indication of how the Tanzanian
textile industry experiences the institutions in the country, whether they
are growth promoting and supporting for the textile sector, and further how
these institutions affects the industry. The report will only take the
institutional environment of the Tanzanian textile industry into
consideration and will mainly focus on the years after the economic
transition. A questionnaire has been designed to catch the attitudes from
the three textile companies. The empirical results indicate that the
institutions surrounding the textile industry are not well working. There
are signs of high transaction costs, the legislation is not effective in
protecting property rights, lack of trust in the contract right and
difficulties to enter the industry. The country has problem with corruption,
pirate copying and illegal importation. Something that does not seem to
affect the textile industry significantly is the social and cultural
differences.
